Tenant Notifications on Autopilot, Straight From SAP
Three years of unattended tenant notifications pulled straight from SAP — WhatsApp and SMS reminders for cheque due dates, welcomes, and contract renewals, with no one placing a file by hand.
The Brief
A Dubai-based real-estate company needed to keep its tenants informed automatically, with the data coming straight out of their SAP system: cheque due dates — amount, cheque number, bank, due date, unit — plus welcome messages for new tenants and contract-expiry and renewal instructions.
The source was always a SAP view. The catch, at least until early 2026, was that getting that data into the automation still relied on a person exporting a CSV into a folder by hand, every single day.
The Build
I built three scheduled C#/.NET console jobs, each running indefinitely under Windows Task Scheduler. One pulls the tenant data directly from the SAP view once a day and writes out a compatible CSV — the job that replaced the manual export. Another sends WhatsApp messages hourly through the WhatsApp Business API; a third sends SMS hourly through a regional gateway.
A local SQL Server database keeps the whole thing honest. One table records whether a tenant has already been notified for a given message type on a given day, so no one is messaged twice; another logs every action, mirrored out to plain-text files for a paper trail.
The Outcome
The system has run in production since 2023 — three years and counting. When the SMS provider started enforcing IP-whitelisting and sending quietly broke, I diagnosed it and got it working again on the live setup.
The 2026 upgrade added the daily SAP-to-CSV job, which removed the last manual step in the pipeline. What used to need a person placing a file every morning now runs end-to-end, unattended.
